The General Council has decided to give Governor Stefan Ingves a further term of office of six years as chairman of the Executive Board of the Riksbank.
”Stefan Ingves has done invaluable work as governor of the Riksbank since 2006. He is highly competent and able and has a valuable international network of contacts. This past weekend Stefan Ingves was also appointed chairman of the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision. We are pleased and honoured that Stefan Ingves has agreed to stand for re-election for a further term of office. This ensures good continuity in the work of the Riksbank,” say Johan Gernandt, Chairman of the General Council, and Sven-Erik Österberg, Vice Chairman.
First Deputy Governor Svante Öberg and Deputy Governor Lars Nyberg have earlier notified that they will be leaving the Riksbank at the end of the year when their terms of office expire. ”As Governor Stefan Ingves’s term of office also expires at the end of the year, the General Council wished to announce at an early stage that he will remain governor for a further six years. The process of appointing two new Executive Board members has begun and an announcement will be made during the autumn,” say Johan Gernandt and Sven-Erik Österberg.
A press conference with the Chairman of the General Council Johan Gernandt, the Vice Chairman Sven-Erik Österberg , and Governor Stefan Ingves will be held today at 1 p.m. at the Riksbank, Brunkebergstorg 11. Press cards must be shown.
The press conference will be broadcast live on the Riksbank’s website, www.riksbank.se .
