The Riksbank has signed a final agreement with the Finnish state-owned Mint Rahapaja Oy, on the sale of the Swedish Mint in Eskilstuna. This agreement is based on the letter of intent signed in November. The purchase price is SEK 200 million. The Riksbank has concluded a long term agreement with Rahjapaja Oy regarding delivery of coins and commemorative coins.
Rahapaja will take over the Swedish Mint with effect from 1 January 2002. The Swedish Mint, with 15 employees, currently manufactures Swedish coins. Rahapaja intends to co-ordinate activities in Finland and Sweden and continue operations in Eskilstuna. All of the employees based in Eskilstuna will be offered continued employment at the Mint.
Rahapaja has long been responsible for minting Finnish coins and also has experience of manufacturing the technically advanced euro coins. It also mints jubilee coins in Finland. Rahapaja's turnover for 2001 is estimated at EUR 96 million and it exports to more than 30 different countries.
