Confidence in the Riksbank is still high but has declined somewhat

Date

The Swedish public's confidence in the Riksbank is still high but has declined somewhat. This is shown by the survey that the SOM Institute in Gothenburg conducts among households in Sweden every year. According to the SOM Institute's survey for 2008, 44 per cent of the respondents stated that they have very high or fairly high confidence in the Riksbank, which puts the Riksbank in fifth place behind the health system, the universities and colleges, public service television and radio and the police force. In last year's survey, 51 per cent of the respondents had high confidence in the Riksbank, which was then in fourth place.

The survey is conducted using a questionnaire that is distributed by post to a random selection of 6000 people between the ages of 15 and 85. It is always conducted in the autumn and then presented in the spring of the following year. Approximately 60 per cent of those who receive the questionnaire usually respond, which is a rather high figure for this type of survey. The question that is asked is "How much confidence do you have in the way that the following social institutions and groups perform their duties?" This year's survey reveals that confidence in most of the institutions covered by the survey has declined.
