The Riksbank and financial stability brochure has been updated

Date

The brochure "The Riksbank and financial stability" describes the Riksbank's role and tasks in the work of promoting financial stability. The main focus is on the tasks stemming from the Riksbank's work on preventing and managing financial crises. Today an updated version of the brochure is published, replacing the earlier edition from 2010.

The purpose of the brochure is to describe what financial stability is and why it is so important for the economy. Another important purpose is to describe how the Riksbank works to promote financial stability in practice. As there have been a number of new developments regarding the Riksbank's work with financial stability in recent years, the brochure has now been updated. For instance, the Riksbank now makes recommendations to various agents in its Financial Stability Report.

A number of new organisations have also been created with the task of strengthening macroprudential policy*, and the Riksbank is active in these. One example is the Council for Cooperation on Macroprudential Policy established together with Finansinspektionen (the Swedish Financial Supervisory Authority) last year. At an international level, the Riksbank is now participating in the ESRB (European Systemic Risk Board), for instance, as well as the NBMF (Nordic Baltic Macroprudential Forum) together with the other Nordic countries and the Baltic countries.

More extensive update to come

There is work being done in Sweden and abroad that will probably affect the Riksbank's work with financial stability in one form or another. The brochure will therefore be updated again in the not too distant future.

The brochure will also be available in printed format in a week or so, and can be ordered from the Riksbank’s website.

* Macroprudential policy concerns measures to discover, analyse and counteract risks that threaten the stability of the financial system as a whole.
