Special minting of the 1-krona coin 2013

Date

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the reign of King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden as head of state. The Riksbank intends to celebrate this by minting a special design on the reverse of the 1-krona coins issued during 2013.

The General Council of the Riksbank has chosen a proposal from the designer Erik Nordin as the motif for the coin. The motif, which shows King Carl XVI Gustaf's motto "För Sverige i tiden" ("For Sweden - With the times") and the text "Sveriges konung i 40 år" ("King of Sweden for 40 years") will be on the reverse of the 1-krona coin. The obverse (the portrait of the King) will be unchanged.

All of the 1-krona coins issued in 2013 will have this special minting. When the coin will actually come into circulation depends on society's need for new coins. It may therefore take some time before the coin is in circulation.

The Riksbank has previously issued commemorative coins to mark the 10th, 20th, 25th, and 30th anniversaries of King Carl XVI Gustaf's accession to the throne, that is in 1983, 1993, 1998, and 2003.
