Special minting of the 1-krona coin in 2009
Next year it will be 200 years since Finland was separated from the Kingdom of Sweden. The Riksbank will mark the memory of this event by minting a special version of the 1-krona coin.
The General Council of the Riksbank has chosen as a motif a suggestion by designer Annie Winblad Jakubowski. The motif, which includes a quotation from the poet Anton Rosell* – "Den underbara sagan om ett land på andra sidan hafvet” (the wondrous tale of a land on the other side of the sea) – will be on the reverse of the 1-krona coin. The obverse, or front of the coin will remain unchanged with the picture of the King.
All 1-krona coins issued in 2009 will be of this special version. The coin will be launched on 15 January 2009 at a ceremony in the Riksdag, the Swedish Parliament.
The Government has appointed a national committee for the bicentenary of events in 1809. More information can be found at Märkesåret 1809.
