The current 100-krona and 500-krona banknotes as well as all the older coins, apart from the 10-krona coin, will become invalid after 30 June 2017. Old and new banknotes and coins will therefore both be valid for a further nine months before being successively phased out. This means that it may take a while before you have the new banknotes and coins in your hand. A large part of the banknote and coin changeover will take place via the retail trade, but to make returning coins easier for people who have a lot of coins, the Riksbank has set up the website myntkartan.se, which shows the closest location where coins can be deposited.
A press conference with Governor Ingves and Mårten Gomer, Technical Expert, will be held today at 9.30 at the Riksbank. Press cards must be shown. The press conference will be broadcast live on the Riksbank's website, www.riksbank.se, where it will also be available to view afterwards.
Today, between 14.00 and 19.00, the general public will have the opportunity to come to the Riksbank, Brunkebergstorg 11, to exchange money for a new 100-krona banknote and a selection of coins worth 20 kronor. It will also be possible to visit an exhibition on the new banknotes and coins. The exhibition is only open on 3 October, 14.00–19.00.
Further information on the banknote and coin changeover can be found on the Riksbank's website, www.riksbank.se, under the heading Notes & coins.
