The General Council of the Riksbank decided today to appoint Henry Ohlsson new member of the Executive Board of the Riksbank. He succeeds Karolina Ekholm, who left the Riksbank earlier this year to become state secretary at the Ministry of Finance.
"We are very pleased to be able to present another highly qualified person as member of the Executive Board. The General Council is unanimous in this appointment," say Chair of the General Council Susanne Eberstein and Vice Chair Michael Lundholm in a joint comment.
Henry Ohlsson is professor of economics at Uppsala University and in general has a solid academic background. Henry Ohlsson is also a member of the board of the Swedish Public Employment Service and is Chair of the Economic Council of Swedish Industry, but leaves these assignments when he takes up the post of member of the Executive Board of the Riksbank.
"Mr Ohlsson has considerable academic experience and has conducted research into areas linked to the labour market, wage formation and taxation. This provides a good complement to the other members of the Board," say the Chair of the General Council Susanne Eberstein and the Vice Chair Michael Lundholm.
Henry Ohlsson has been appointed for a term of office of six years. He will take up his post on 12 January and will thus be able to take part in the monetary policy meeting in February. Prior to his appointment, the new Board member attended a hearing by the General Council.
The Executive Board of the Riksbank consists of six members, who are appointed for a term of office of five or six years. The other members are Governor Stefan Ingves, First Deputy Governor Kerstin af Jochnick and Deputy Governors Per Jansson, Cecilia Skingsley and Martin Flodén.
A press conference with the Chair of the General Council Susanne Eberstein, Vice Chair Michael Lundholm and Henry Ohlsson will be held today at 11.15 a.m. at the Riksbank, Brunkebergstorg 11. Press cards must be shown. The press conference will be broadcast live on the Riksbank's website, www.riksbank.se.
