Svante Öberg to leave Riksbank at year-end
Date
21/01/2011
First Deputy Governor Svante Öberg will leave the Riksbank at the end of the year when his period of office expires. Mr Öberg has been a member of the Riksbank’s Executive Board since 1 January 2006 and has notified the General Council of the Riksbank that he will not be available for re-election.
“The assignment as member of the Riksbank’s Executive Board has been very interesting, stimulating and educational. Together with my colleagues on the Executive Board and the employees at the Riksbank we have over the past five years further developed the method of conducting monetary policy, managed a financial crisis and increased transparency. It has really been a great privilege to be entrusted the task of taking part in this work. My period of office expires this year and, given that I will be celebrating my 65th birthday, the time has come to move on to the next phase in life and to devote more time to family, friends and leisure interests,” says Svante Öberg.
First Deputy Governor Svante Öberg’s period of office will expire on 31 December 2011. Deputy Governor Lars Nyberg has earlier notified that he will not be available for re-election when his period of office expires at the end of the year. “The General Council now has ample time for the process of appointing new members to the Executive Board. Governor Stefan Ingves’ period of office also expires at the end of 2011. We will announce the appointment of three members later in the year," say Chairman of the General Council Johan Gernandt and Vice Chairman Leif Pagrotsky in a joint comment.
