”On behalf of the General Council, I would like to thank Kristina Persson for her valuable contribution to the Riksbank’s work, particularly the work on creating greater understanding for the Riksbank’s activities in society, but also for her commitment to international issues,” comments Vice Chairman Johan Gernandt.
Following the parliamentary elections, when a new General Council is elected, the work on appointing a new member of the Executive Board will begin. The new member will take up his or her appointment on 1 May 2007.
The regulations applying to a departing member of the Executive Board are as follows: According to Chapter 3, Article 1 of the Sveriges Riksbank Act, members of the Executive Board are not allowed, for a period of one year after resigning their post, to hold certain positions or assignments without the consent of the General Council. The preparatory works for the Act state that members of the Executive Board should refrain during a period of one year at most from holding positions or taking assignments where their knowledge could be used improperly. To avoid an excessively rigid application of this provision, the General Council may shorten the period during which a former Executive Board member may not hold another post. During this period the Executive Board member receives a full salary from the Riksbank without the obligation to work, although any income from other positions during this period is deducted from the salary.
