Tumba Bruk 250th anniversary - commemorative banknote issued today
Date
26/05/2005
The Chairman of the General Council of the Riksbank, Jan Bergqvist, will today participate in a formal issue ceremony for Sveriges Riksbank’s commemorative 100-kronor note to celebrate the 250th anniversary of Tumba Bruk paper mill. The ceremony will take place at 4 p.m. at the Swedish Exhibition Centre in Gothenburg, in connection with the stamp fair Nordia 2005.
The note is being issued in a limited edition of 100,000 and will be supplied in a folder. The sales price is SEK 150. The banknote can be purchased at the Royal Coin Cabinet in Stockholm or from, for instance, coin dealers. It can also be ordered from this website or by telephone at +46-8-787 02 50.
The Post Office will on the same day issue a commemorative stamp with a value of SEK 15 to mark Tumba Bruk’s anniversary.
The banknote contains modern security details but an old-fashioned design. The motif on the front is Mother Svea, in keeping with the one used on notes at the end of the 19th century. The main motif on the reverse of the note is an old blueprint of Tumba Bruk mill and a picture of banknote manufacture from the 18th century. The postage stamp also depicts Mother Svea.
More information and pictures of the commemorative banknote can be found on this website.
The anniversary is also being celebrated with the inauguration of the Tumba Bruk museum on 4 June. The museum has been established on the Riksbank’s initiative and will be run by the Royal Coin Cabinet.
