New, upgraded banknotes to be introduced on 1 October
On 1 October 2001 two new, upgraded Swedish banknotes will be introduced, a new 100-krona note and a new 500-krona note. The banknotes have additional and improved security details, which make them more difficult to counterfeit. It will also be easier to check the authenticity of the banknotes.
The older versions of the 100-krona and 500-krona banknotes will remain legal tender.
The Riksbank will today begin an information campaign regarding the new banknotes. The information material will be available on the Riksbank's website and in banks and post offices. An information film will also be broadcast on Swedish Television's public information programme "Anslagstavlan".
