Banks raised lending and deposit rates 0.3 percentage points in 2000 Q1

The Riksbank’s quarterly survey of interest rates set by banks and housing intermediaries at end March 2000 shows that in the first quarter the banks raised lending as well as deposit rates by an average of 0.3 percentage points. The average level of bank lending rates was 5.8 per cent, while the level of deposit rates was 2.0 per cent, giving a spread of 3.8 percentage points, which is 0.1 percentage point less than for 1999 Q4 . In 2000 Q1 the Riksbank raised the repo rate 0.5 percentage points, to 3.75 per cent, and the six-month T-bill rate moved up 0.4 percentage points.

 

The house mortgage institutions raised their variable lending rates by an average of 0.2 percentage points to 4.6 per cent. The rates for their total loan stock averaged 6.2 per cent, an increase of 0.1 percentage point.
