Riksbank offices to close to the public

Date

The Riksbank’s offices in Malmö, Mölndal, Jönköping, Linköping, Örebro, Härnösand and Luleå vill be closed to the general public from May 17th onwards and the office in Stockholm from June 1st. The offices in Växjö, Karlstad and Falun are already closed to the public.

The public services provided by the offices – mainly premium bond business, redemption of notes and coins, and sales of commemoration coins – will be discontinued; in future, customers are referred to banks and post offices.
The closure are a consequence of the physical handling of notes and coins being transferred to a separate company. This is intended to enhance the efficiency of cash handling in Sweden and concentrate the role of the Riksbank in this context to that of the authority.

With effect from June 1st, the Riksbank’s branch offices will be incorporated in the new company, PSAB (Pengar i Sverige AB, Money in Sweden plc). The company, owned to begin with by the Riksbank, will provide cash handling services in the first place for post offices and banks.

Matters to do with invalid bank notes will continue to be dealt with by the Riksbank. The notes should be sent by registred mail (ESS-brev) to: Sveriges Riksbank, Kassaenheten, S-103 37 Stockholm, Sweden, with the sender’s name, address, daytime telephone number, giro account number (if any) and an account of why the notes were not redeemed earlier.
