New research department headed by Anders Vredin

Today the Riksbank has decided to set up a research department as of 1 January 1997. The purpose of the new department is to develop methods for analysing issues of importance for the functions of the Riksbank, primarily in the field of political economy.
The Riksbank has appointed Mr. Anders Vredin to head the department.
Mr. Vredin, born in 1957, is an associate professor in economics and has worked in this capacity since 1992 at the Stockholm School of Economics. He is a member of the Economics Council and participated in the EU Enquiry. He has published a broad range of articles in the fields of macro economics and monetary policy.
"Anders Vredin is one of Sweden's more prominent economists in fields that are relevant for the Riksbank. He is also a good teacher with a well-documented interest in economic policy issues. We are very pleased to have him on our staff," says Mr. Urban Bäckström, Governor of Sveriges Riksbank.
