Riksbank's General Council supports renewal of banknote and coin series but rejects proposal for 20-kronor coin

The General Council of the Riksbank decided at today’s meeting to support the Executive Board’s proposal to supplement the present banknote and coin series with a 2-kronor coin and a 200-kronor banknote, and to renew the Swedish banknote and coin series. However, they did not consider that the 20-kronor note should be replaced with a coin.

The final decision on denominations will be made by the Riksdag (the Swedish parliament) after a proposal from the Executive Board of the Riksbank. The Executive Board is expected to decide on a proposal during the spring.
