On 30 September 2010 the 50-öre coin will cease to be legal tender. This was decided by the Riksdag, the Swedish Parliament, on 25 March following a proposal from the Riksbank.
At the same time the act on rounding off certain amounts in öre (SFS 1970:1029) will be amended. The amendment will entail amounts in öre ending in one up to forty-nine being rounded down and amounts from fifty up to ninety-nine being rounded up.
The abolition of the 50-öre coin is part of the review of the Swedish banknote and coin series that is being carried out by the Riksbank.
