New head for the Secretariat of the Executive Board at the Riksbank

The Executive Board of the Riksbank today appointed Björn Hasselgren head of the bank's Secretariat of the Executive Board with effect from 15 August 2002.

Mr Hasselgren has worked at the Riksbank since 1993 and is presently deputy head of the Secretariat. He has previously worked in what were the Financial Markets Department and the Financial Statistics Department at the Riksbank, as well as working at the National Audit Office. In his new post, Mr Hasselgren will continue to be project manager for the Riksbank's EMU preparations.

The present head of the department, Robert Sparve, is taking up an appointment with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Washington. He will participate in the IMF's advisory work to member countries regarding central bank legislation and other financial legislation.

The Secretariat of the Executive Board is responsible for providing legal and other advice to the members of the Riksbank's Executive Board and to other departments within the bank, as well as providing administrative services to the Executive Board and General Council of the Riksbank.
