Thomas Östros takes up the post of Executive Director at the IMF

Thomas Östros assumes the position of Executive Director at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on 25 January 2016. In connection with his appointment, Sweden is also taking over the coordination of the Nordic-Baltic constituency's policy positions. As Executive Director, Mr Östros will spend the next four years representing the Nordic and the Baltic countries in the IMF Executive Board and leading the work of the constituency office.

 

Mr Östros was appointed as the new Executive Director for the Nordic-Baltic constituency at the IMF in Washington DC in February last year. Since May 2015, he has been the Swedish representative and Alternate Executive Director at the Nordic-Baltic constituency office.

 

The Riksbank is the authority in Sweden that acts as point of contact with the IMF and formulates Sweden's policy positions together with the Ministry of Finance. Sweden is a member of the Nordic-Baltic constituency, which comprises eight countries. The positions at the Nordic-Baltic constituency office rotate among these eight countries.
