The Riksbank is rated the most transparent central bank in the world in a recently-published study by economists Barry Eichengreen and Nergiz Dincer. The study covers 120 central banks during the period 1998-2010 and transparency has been scored on the basis of several different criteria:
Political transparency - openness regarding the central bank's objectives;
Economic transparency - openness on data, models and forecasts;
Procedural transparency - how the monetary policy decisions are made;
Policy transparency - communication of its decisions and intentions, and
Operational transparency - whether a central bank evaluates its own success in achieving its objectives
The study, entitled Central Bank Transparency and Independence: Updates and New Measures is the third edition in a study of transparency carried out by Eichengreen and Dincer since 2007. The Riksbank has also had the highest ratings in the previous studies, together with the central banks in New Zealand, the United Kingdom and Israel.
