Problem of confusion with new 5-krona coin resolved

There were a number of media articles on Wednesday about the Riksbank and Danmarks Nationalbank discussing the risk of confusion between the new Swedish 5-krona coin and the Danish 10-krona coin in vending machines.

It was the Riksbank that notified the Danish central bank of this risk after tests carried out showed that a particular type of machine was unable to distinguish these coins from one another. The Riksbank has consulted with the manufacturer of these machines and the problem is now resolved.

"We are currently rounding up the part of the process where we ensure in advance that there will be no problems of confusion once the coins are launched," says Christina Wejshammar, Head of the Cash Management Division at the Riksbank's Administration Department.
