Many countries have now introduced the Basel III Accord

Date

The Basel Committee on Banking Supervision (BCBS), of which Governor Stefan Ingves is chairman, today published its semi-annual Report to G20 Leaders on Basel III implementation. Read the report here. The report will be discussed when the G20 finance ministers and central bank governors meet in Washington D.C. on 18–19 April.

According to the report, the Basel Committee's member states have made great progress in introducing the Basel III Accord. Many of the members have now incorporated it into their national legislation. According to the report, the Committee is now also working on carrying out a review of how the banks calculate the capital they must hold to cover the risks in their loan portfolios. This is linked to the 'risk-weight floor' that Finansinspektionen (the Swedish Financial Supervisory Authority) intends to introduce for Swedish mortgages.
