The uncertainty in the global economy, above all in the euro area, entails a potential increase in the demand for loans from the International Monetary Fund (IMF). The Managing Director of the IMF, Christine Lagarde, has therefore asked that a broad agreement on increasing the resources of the Fund should be reached at the spring meeting of the IMF at the weekend.
The Riksbank has today sent a letter to Ms Lagarde confirming Sweden's willingness to contribute to this increase in the resources of the Fund by a sum equivalent to at least USD 10 billion. This letter is based on the decision made by the Executive Board in December 2011 to work for a parliamentary decision that will entitle the Riksbank to lend up to SEK 100 billion to the IMF.
