Internship for PhD Students at Sveriges Riksbank
Sveriges Riksbank, the central bank of Sweden, invites applications for our internship program for PhD students at Swedish or foreign universities. The selected interns will spend a period of two months at the Riksbank during the period from April to December 2018. The monthly salary offered is SEK 20,000. The Riksbank will not cover travel or housing expenses.
An important goal for the Riksbank is to maintain price stability. The Riksbank has specified this as an inflation target of 2 per cent consumer price inflation. At the same time monetary policy should support the objectives of general economic policy with a view to achieving sustainable growth and high employment. The Riksbank also has the Riksdag's mandate to promote a safe and efficient payment mechanism. This means that the Riksbank will promote stability in the Swedish financial system as a whole. The Financial Stability Department focuses on the early identification of risks that could lead to inefficiencies in or instability of the Swedish financial system, and is responsible for ensuring that the Riksbank has the operational ability to deal with financial crises. The Monetary Policy Department focuses on forecasting and monetary policy analysis to support monetary policy decisions by the Executive Board. The Research Division undertakes research into issues and methods relevant to the Riksbank's policy activities, including both financial stability and monetary policy analysis.
The purpose of the internship program is to give graduate students an opportunity to interact with Riksbank researchers, while conducting research into issues broadly relevant to the Riksbank. Students should therefore have finished the first-year course work of their PhD programs and started working on their dissertations, or be in the process of identifying a dissertation topic.
Participants in the program will gain insights into research work in a central bank, and benefit from interaction with Riksbank staff. Interns placed in the research division are expected to define and work on dissertation projects and present their achievements in a seminar towards the end of their stay. The Financial Stability Department is particularly interested in students who do research on financial stability, macroprudential policy, the relationship between the financial sector and aggregate economic activity, systemic risk, risk management and capital adequacy, financial risk modelling, stress testing, financial markets, household finance, financial econometrics, or banking. The Monetary Policy Department is interested in students who do research on monetary policy, forecasting, and macrofinancial analysis. Interns placed in the Financial Stability Department or Monetary Policy Department can expect to pursue a mix of directed research and work on dissertation projects of their own.
